DIRTY LITTLE LUSTS: OXFORDS

Tuesday, November 13, 2012

While oxfords may be the definition of "the classic shoe," falling in and out of trend over the years, there is always room to bring a modern twist to any fad. This winter, we are seeing not just the abundance of oxfords on the market, but an increase in crazy, colored, patterned and dotted versions of the shoe. I admit, my first pair of oxfords was a freeing one, almost like going from flared jeans to skinnies. (At 5'9 in eighth grade, I had finally realized the hard way what 'flooding' meant.) This winter, throw out those ballet flats that always give you blisters and fill your closet with functional, stylish, and above all, CRAZY oxfords.

HOW TO WEAR OXFORDS:

LOOK ONE - CASUAL: Keep the palette simple with a slouchy t-shirt and a pair of leather pants. Throw on a chunky necklace for added spunk. Donning all black suits the cold winter and is by far one of the sleekest looks to pull off. For the oxfords, keep the theme of neutral and all black or go for a bright POP of color to counter act the dark outfit.

LOOK TWO - BUSINESS: Who said business couldn't still be a party? Bring your own flair and individuality by pairing a crazy patterned skirt with a delicate lace top. Throw in an equally contrasting chunky necklace with an added feminine bow to tie the look together. As for the shoes, go all out. The amazing light purple print oxfords scream class and add just the right touch of sophistication.

LOOK THREE - PARTY: A marbled nude dress with a classic silhouette warrants a classic shoe. With a dress so busy, stick to earrings instead of a necklace. For the footsies, try a metallic finish or a pop of color. The metallic gives a more dolled up vibe to the look.
