Last weekend, I had my fair share of indulgence. The weekend was generously sponsored by SPF 50, the sweat of middle-aged men rubbing their arms against mine, glitter, a $5 Gay Pride Flag, copious amounts of street vendors and women who should have definitely been wearing shirts, but weren't. This, my fair readers is what I would like to call a New York City Parade.
I just happened to attend two. Saturday, we stopped by the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island. This consisted of groups of people dressings as... mermaids. Surprisingly, not as repetitive as assumed. People tended to get quite creative so the atmosphere was wild. Coney Island definitely seems to have an eerie invisible fog overlaying the grounds. I could picture the abandoned wooden roller coaster decaying in an overgrown lot while a metal fence creaked in the distance. I got goosebumps looking at the park, even while it was filled with hundreds of people.
Sunday, we went to the Gay Pride Parade by Union Square. I have always had strong opinions of freedom and equality, so attending the parade was a fabulous treat. Catching a glimpse of the sheer happiness of people involved was incredibly touching. There seems to be a slow change on the issue of homosexuality in the United States, but the slow change still is change. I am excited to see where our country will go on the issue as more corporate businesses show their support for the cause. The streets were filled with rainbow, confetti, love and again, people who should have been wearing clothes, but weren't.
KARAOKE FUN:
MERMAID PARADE:
This strapping man was literally just gazing out into the ocean like this.
GAY PRIDE PARADE:
One of the only people that was actually right about having his shirt off.
Napping in the park.
Over abundance of free chocolate milk. No one could resist
Some just couldn't handling the pride.
looks like so much fun!
